Abu Walid al Masri And Due Process – Adam Serwer

Adam Serwer over at The American Prospect  has posted some commentary on Abu Walid al Masri’s questions. I’d like to thank Adam for taking the time to respond. He raises some excellent points.

What I want to know is this: does Al Masri want to win the global war? Or does he want a local victory or draw, with the US out of Afghanistan and the GWOT and AQ leaving the West alone to concentrate on their neighborhood, a la the MB? If the first is his long-term goal and the idea that our enhanced interrogations, renditions, etc., are recruiting more terrorists than they’re enabling us to neutralize, then he should be all for our continued use of these methods. Of course, nobody seems to be wondering if maybe Abu Walid is just pushing the party line-“the methods you’re using are unjust and inhumane”-because those methods are, in fact, effective and lack a substitute, not because of his love for the truth and universal, inalienable human rights. Just wondering here.
