My dialogue with Abu Walid al Masri

The below pages outline the rather amazing dialogue I am having with senior mujahideen figure Abu Walid al Masri. For those of you not aware of who he is he’s currently an author for the Taliban’s flagship magazine, and self declared “old friend” of al Qaeda. He has an amazing history. One of the first Arabs to go to Afghanistan to fight the Soviets and the first foreigner to swear allegiance to Mullah Omar.

I am currently in the process of finishing the translations and putting out an article on our dialogues as I have indicated in earlier posts (which I will link to here when I get a spare second). Background to our dialogue can be found here .

In the meantime, and as I have said in these posts. I have put the original Arabic up here before I have written my article on our discussions and provided the translations. I ask that you respect the good faith in which I have done this. And if you don’t I will have something to say about it, very loudly, and very publicly. Sorry it is taking me so long. It’s a big job and unfortunately thesis must come first. I ask that you treat these as drafts and do not cite without author permission as per protocol and unless otherwise indicated by a comment notifying it is free for citation. They will remain with this caveat in place until I am able to finalise and cross check everything.

Al-Samoud Magazine Announces Death of Media Officials

    http://news.siteintelgroup.com/component/content/article/6-jihadist-news/500-al-samoud-magazine-announces-death-of-media-officials

The management of al-Samoud Magazine, the Afghan Taliban’s Arabic-language e-magazine, announced that two of the group’s media officials, Ahmed Zahir and Mustafa Hamid, were killed in a US airstrike.

The message announcing their deaths and providing brief eulogies was posted on al-Samoud’s website on February 27, 2011. Al-Samoud identified Ahmed Zahir as a well-known preacher and jihadi writer and as a member of its editorial board. Mustafa Hamid is identified as an official in al-Emarah Studio, a media unit of the Afghan Taliban. Al-Samoud stated that both men died in one of the “hot fighting fronts,” and did not elaborate upon the date and location.
