Missed in the midst of all things AQ this week:
Just a quick one I have been meaning to post about.
In between all of the other AQ things happening in the past 10 days or so, something else important slipped through the cracks. Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan, Sheikh Saaed, issued a “clarification” about his comments about Hamas and referenced Abu Muhammad al Maqdisi.
I will address this when I discuss Mustafa Hamid’s message to al Qaeda in the bigger post I promised later tonight Aus time. Right now I need to suck down as much coffee as possible and do some busy stuff, but I will get back to it because it’s bothering me.
Aside from the ideological aspects, I also want to highlight what he says about al Qaeda’s media capacity. He says he is sorry for the delay but that circumstances on the ground prevented a more immediate response. This further reinforces what I have been saying about disruptions in the way that As Sahaab has previously done business. It is not new for this to happen. We’ve seen it many times before. But it is always good to know that this is the case, and exploit it.
